The Syrian government has retaken territory around the northern city of Aleppo, the military said on Tuesday, after two weeks of rebel infighting that has weakened the insurgency against President Bashar al-Assad.
An activist group is reporting that infighting between Syrian rebels has killed nearly 500 people in the past week. Clashes between moderate opposition fighters and radical Islamist militias gaining influence are threatening to overshadow the struggle to overthrow President Assad's regime mere weeks between peace talks are set to take place in Geneva.
Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad killed dozens of rebel fighters who tried to break an army siege of the central city of Homs, state media and a monitoring group said.
