The White House tore into Democrats for what it called “intimidation and abuse of American citizens,” a day after Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee launched a sweeping inquiry into alleged obstruction of justice and abuse of power by President Donald Trump’s closest allies.

The House Judiciary Committee has sought documents from 81 people and groups, including Trump’s family members, former campaign aides, business associates and others, and has plans to broaden the probe on the Russian election interference to the president’s finances, notes USA Today.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said that the latest probe is a “disgraceful” attempt by Democrats to divert attention from serious issues such as immigration, healthcare and infrastructure and to revive a “crumbling” narrative of “Russia collusion,” writes the BBC.

President Trump, who now has five House committees looking into alleged Russian election interference, his tax returns and potential conflict of interests, has already dismissed the probe as a “political hoax.”
