U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held crisis talks with King Salman in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday over the mysterious disappearance of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who Turkish officials allege, was killed by the Kingdom’s agents at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Over the past two weeks, Saudi Arabia has emphatically denied any involvement in Khashoggi’s disappearance, however, the latest reports claim Riyadh may admit that the journalist died at its Istanbul consulate in a “botched investigation,” writes Reuters.

Saudi Arabia faces growing international pressure over the alleged Khashoggi murder, with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights calling on the Kingdom to waive off the diplomatic inviolability of the consulate and the diplomatic immunity of officials during the course of the investigation, notes the BBC.
