U.S. President Donald Trump tore into Attorney General Jeff Sessions for filing charges against two Republican members of Congress, adding that the justice department’s decision dents their chances of “easy wins” in the midterm elections.
The outburst on Twitter hands critics another example of Trump’s illegal attempt to meddle with the justice system, writes the BBC. Republican Congressman Christopher Collins has been charged with participating in an insider trading scheme while Representative Duncan Hunter is accused of campaign violations.
Trump, who has had a bitter history with Sessions, indicated last month that he may sack the Attorney General after midterm elections, however, the Republicans are apparently divided over the necessity for such a move, notes The Guardian.
