The vicious mudslinging by humans can only get worse if it meets the big data and automation of propaganda chatbots, the computer scripts designed to run a mind-boggling number of fake accounts that sway the public opinion by the sheer volume of distorted messaging.

Weaponized by AI, the propaganda bots lack any surprise element or subtlety but beat the genuine political discourse by bombarding the internet with posts and replies that broadcast and amplify malicious information while subduing the real talk, notes MIT Technology Review.

As artificial intelligence equips these bots with the ability to understand the context and intent of online conversations, they get more natural and engaging in responses to surreptitiously mislead the targets.

As creepy as it may sound, conversational bots might soon begin to identify vulnerable targets and approach them via private chat channels to sway elections, writes Internet Of Business.
