Responding to a call by The Boston Globe, more than 300 news outlets in the U.S. have joined forces in launching an editorial campaign that stands up to President Donald Trump’s “dirty war” against media.
Trump’s incessant verbal onslaughts on media, calling critical stories as “fake news” and describing journalists as enemies of Americans not only attempts to stifle the voice of a free press but puts the life of media persons in danger, observes the BBC.
The editorial push, with the New York Times on board, brings together many of the smaller newspapers, including the ones operating in the states won by Trump during the 2016 election, notes Reuters.
Trump is no different to some former U.S. Presidents, who are at odds with the media, but it is his “calculated and consistent policy” of undermining, delegitimizing and threatening the press that’s a bigger concern, writes The Guardian.
