U.S. President Donald Trump claimed victory for Republican candidate Troy Balderson in Tuesday’s special election in Ohio’s 12th Congressional District even before the complete results that may see the fortunes swinging to any side in a tightrope contest.
Democrat House representative Ben Ray Luján said that the closeness of the contest, viewed as an indicator of the general mood ahead of November’s mid-term polls, is an “ominous sign” for the Republicans for the election ahead, writes the BBC.
The district has been a Republican stronghold for over three decades, and a defeat here, would be a major embarrassment for the GOP, reports ABC News.
