The marathon fight against toxic plastic has won over a new ally with sportswear Adidas pledging to use only recycled plastics, including polyester, in its shoes and clothing by 2024.

The company’s Eric Liedtke touts the step as one of the first "right-sized bites” on path to a green transition that won’t dent Adidas’s profit margins while boosting its environmental credentials, notes Engadget.

The economics of the switch would be a big hurdle for Adidas but “eco-conscious design” carries rewards of a good public image, hence the company is willing to mend its ways. Roughly 40 tons of plastics would be saved annually if the company switches to 100% recycled polyester by 2024, reports Huffington Post.
