Malaysia’s former PM Najib arrested in graft probe

Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak, dogged by allegations of misappropriating state funds, has been arrested by the anti-corruption officials and is due to be charged in court on Wednesday.
Najib, who suffered a shock election loss in May, is accused of pocketing $700m from state development fund 1MDB, he founded in 2009, notes the BBC.
Najib was cleared of all wrongdoing while in power but the 92-year-old Mahathir Mohamad reopened the probe into the country’s biggest corruption scandal immediately after assuming power in May, writes The Guardian.
