The U.S. and North Korean officials met in Singapore to iron out major differences ahead of a historic summit between their state heads on June 12 as the two nations pursue a “new era” in relations departing from decades of acrimony.

In a marked shift from customary acidulous tone for each other, the North Korea state media hailed the “new era” while the U.S. President Donald Trump landed in Singapore with the tweet that read “… excitement in the air!” reports the BBC.

The modality of the talks remains a secret with the two leaders expected to sit for a morning dialogue only with translators and no advisors before heading to negotiation tables, notes The Guardian
