The uncertainty over the planned summit between the U.S. and North Korea deepened on Tuesday after President Donald Trump said there is a “very substantial chance” that the historic event may not happen next month.
Trump reiterated the demand that the North must completely denuclearize as he welcomed South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in, who is visiting the U.S. to salvage the June 12 summit, writes the BBC.
If the summit is shelved, it would be a big setback to Trump’s hopes of a massive diplomatic success with Pyongyang, reports Reuters. Moon Jae-in, who many U.S. officials believe is too willing to compromise with the North Korean leader, remains optimistic that the summit will take place as scheduled.
