U.N. human rights chief Zeid Raad Al Hussein decried Israel’s use of “wholly disproportionate” force that left some 60 Palestinians dead during border protests along the Gaza frontier earlier this week.

Hussein was speaking at a special U.N. meeting that mulls sending an independent investigation team to examine the allegations of Israel’s brutal response to what has been dubbed “the Great March of Return” protests, writes the BBC.

Hussein pointed out the stark difference in the number of casualties on both sides, calling the deadly shooting of protesters a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention over war crimes, notes RTE.
