Israel launched a series of strikes on Iranian military infrastructure in Syria on Thursday after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards “fired 20 rockets” on its positions in the Golan Heights, raising fears of an all-out war between the two arch-rivals.

Iranian weapons depots, logistics sites and intelligence centers, set up to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, were targeted in Israel’s retaliation, notes the BBC.

The two nations have been engaged in conflicts through proxies but the rocket strikes, if confirmed, would mark the first direct military action by Iran against Israel, reports The Guardian.
