Facebook’s skunkworks division has developed a wearable device that lets users feel incoming emails or smartphone messages directly onto their skin, just like real-life pokes.
The device is equipped with actuators, which when triggered, produce distinct vibrations corresponding to certain sounds, conveying words via a new form of human-machine interaction, writes MIT Technology Review.
The device design is still clumsy and training the users on how to make sense of the vibrations is time-consuming, so it may take a while before the technology hits the markets in a smartwatch version.
