Addressing a news conference at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that he would walk out of the proposed talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un if he thought that the dialogue was not “fruitful.”
The president’s comments come on the heels of his confirmation of a clandestine meeting between CIA Director Mike Pompeo and the N. Korean leader, which Trump claimed went “very smoothly,” notes the BBC.
Pompeo’s visit to Pyongyang signals Trump’s willingness to hold meaningful talks with N. Korea but it would be premature to think that the two sides can pull off a comprehensive deal at the proposed meeting, writes Reuters.
