U.S. media reported that CIA director Mike Pompeo went to Pyongyang for a clandestine meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on April 1, a development that would mark the highest level of engagement between the two nations since 2000.
The meeting, which reportedly aimed at laying the groundwork for high-level direct talks, hasn’t been confirmed by the White House, writes the BBC.
U.S. President Donald Trump alluded to the secret meeting between Kim and Pompeo during a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe although he provided no specifics about the encounter, notes The Washington Post.
