The Israeli authorities have beefed up security arrangements and deployed about 100 sharpshooters along the Gaza border as they brace for six-week mass protests by Palestinians, called the Great March of Return.

Tensions have escalated at the frontier after a Palestinian farmer was killed in Israeli shelling on Friday, writes the BBC.

The Israeli foreign ministry has accused Hamas and other participating Palestinian organizations of provoking a conflict as protesters buckle up for a long haul by pitching tents at several locations on the border, reports The Jerusalem Post.
