Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei, in his debut show in the Middle East, merges art with activism, showcasing more than 2,000 items at the Fire Station art gallery in Qatar's capital, Doha, narrating a poignant tale of global refugee crisis.

In the exhibition, entitled Laundromat, Tidy rows of clothes and shoes scream of the plight of those Syrians, who once took refuge in Greek camps that no longer exist, writes Al Jazeera.

The exhibition, aimed at inspiring young artists to create works that comment on social and political issues, focuses more on message and not aesthetics. Ai Weiwei is optimistic that such attempts would touch the people, who feel affected by the ordeal of refugees, notes The Art Newspaper.
