China’s overall exports in February rose dramatically by 44.5% from a year earlier, unexpectedly widening its trade surplus, a development that analysts attribute to seasonal effects and a falling yuan.

During the same period, China’s shipment to the U.S. jumped by 46.1%. The surge reveals the lopsided nature of global commerce, which U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to address with protectionist measures, notes Bloomberg.

America’s decision to impose new tariffs on metal imports, which might come into effect within two months, is unlikely to have an immediate impact on China, writes South China Morning Post.
