United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the warring sides in Syria’s rebel-held enclave of eastern Ghouta to implement a 30-day ceasefire amid claims that the Damascus suburb came under “chlorine gas attack” by government forces.

Addressing U.N. Human Rights Council four-week annual session in Geneva, Guterres said the “hell on earth” must immediately stop in eastern Ghouta and aid agencies be let in with life-saving supplies for 400,000 people caught in the besieged area, writes Reuters.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) figures reveal that more than 500 civilians have been killed in air strikes in eastern Ghouta since February 18, notes Al Jazeera.
