Short on savings? Waste audit is what you need

It’s ironic that the same North Americans who are infamous for creating hordes of garbage struggle to save money. The example makes a classic case of spending habits gone wrong, an issue that can be addressed by running a quick household garbage audit.

In an article published in the Toronto Star, Gail Vaz-Oxlade comes up with a list of trash items that divulge where people are squandering and denting their savings while doing a disservice to the environment as well.

For example, if your garbage bins are stuffed with stretched-out shirts, torn jeans, holey socks, etc, it’s a strong enough cue that your money is draining down the fast fashion alley, a habit you would better switch for buying more durable and versatile clothing, writes Tree Hugger.
