British Prime Minister Theresa May and the Irish government failed to reach an agreement on the issue of Northern Ireland border, which could be as a potential roadblock as Brexit negotiations progress to the second phase.

The development came just ahead of a crucial meeting between May and the European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, aimed at breaking the Brexit talks deadlock, writes The Guardian.

May is likely to offer a new proposal on divorce settlements to persuade the EU to initiate discussions on a trade pact and transitional deal while the bloc wants Britain to clear its dues and come up with a firm commitment on protecting the EU citizens’ rights, notes Reuters
