The authorities stepped up security in the Kenyan capital Nairobi ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration on Tuesday as the opposition geared up to hold a protest rally against the “coronation.”

Kenyatta emerged victorious in the rerun held on October 26 after the initial election in August was nullified by the Supreme Court on grounds of irregularities, writes the BBC.

Chaotic erupted after police fired a volley of tear gas to disperse the people who were trying to force their way into Nairobi's Kasarani sports stadium to witness the president’s swearing in, notes Reuters
