Researchers from ETH Zurich, the University of Basel, and University College London have developed a new ultra-sensitive scientific scale, called Cytomass Monitor, which can accurately measure the weight of a single cell.

The invention may help scientists decode the mysterious biology of mass regulation by the building blocks of human life, writes Digital Trends. The technology also allows researchers to develop novel antiviral strategies by manipulating individual cells.

The Cytomass Monitor, however, falls short of being the most the sensitive scale, as a device built in 2012 can accurately measure the mass of a photon, notes Mental Floss.
