According a state news agency, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has cautioned a visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi against trusting the U.S., accusing the Americans of creating the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.

During a meeting in Tehran, Khamenei hailed the Iraqi regime for its gains against the IS terrorists while warning that the U.S. will harm Iraq whenever the opportunity comes in future, writes Reuters.

The remarks come at a time when the Iraqi government faces pressure over an independence referendum held in the Kurdistan region, notes Tasnim News Agency
