The U.S. State Department announced on Tuesday that it is withdrawing military assistance to Myanmar units over the country’s treatment of Rohingya Muslim minority in the Rakhine state.

The U.S. added that it is considering economic sanctions on Myanmar, adding that the individuals or entities responsible for the traumatic abuse of Rohingyas should be brought to justice, notes the BBC.

The action, which comes ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s maiden visit to the region, marks the strongest U.S. response to the crisis that has forced more than 600,000 Rohingya Muslims out of Myanmar, writes Reuters
