An Israeli company SolCold has developed a special paint that harnesses the power of sunlight to cool your homes, thus offering an economical and eco-friendly alternative to air conditioning in scorching summers.
Yaron Shenhav’s innovation essentially adapts laser cooling process to work for sun, writes Green Matters. The high-tech paint absorbs incident photons of a particular frequency and emits photons of a higher energy, a heat exchange process that cools a top-floor room by nearly 10ºC.
While existing materials in white color have been able to scatter sunlight, this is the first time a formulation can absorb light to make the ambience colder, notes From The Grapevine.
