Austria’s far-right Freedom Party looks set to taste its share of power in the upcoming weekend election as the country’s politics skews towards populist agenda centered largely on immigration and fears of radical Islam.

The Freedom Party could be the kingmaker in the coalition politics especially as traditional center parties are locked in a “dirty campaigning” row, writes The Guardian.

Unlike in Germany where the center-right party explicitly opposed and rejected the populist line of far-right rivals, the center-right Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) is towing the anti-immigration line pushed by opponents, notes Prospect.
