Beijing-based installation artist Lin Tianmiao is presenting an exhibition, entitled “Protruding Patterns,” through October 21, 2017 at Galerie Lelong in New York. The presentation transforms the gallery into a woven landscape with carpets etched with words and expressions about women collected by the artist over time.

The words and phrases, sourced from novels, newspapers, and colloquial dialogue, examine how languages shape up sexist attitudes in daily life, notes Design Boom.

The raised textile form of notably derogatory terms lends them a tangibility, which is akin to sensing how women adjust to evolving societal narratives, writes Galerie Lelong
