U.S. President Donald Trump and opposition Democrats have struck a deal to protect thousands of young undocumented migrants, called “Dreamers” in the U.S., from deportation, a development that brings a sigh of relief for some 800,000 people in the country.
The agreement, brokered by Senator minority leader Chuck Schumer and House counterpart Nancy Pelosi, comes just days after Trump scrapped the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (Daca) scheme that came into force during Obama regime, writes the BBC.
The two sides reached a consensus on reworking the bipartisan Dream Act so as to accommodate border security measures, excluding Trump’s promised Mexico wall, with provisions that safeguard the residency status of immigrants brought illegally to the U.S. as children, notes The Guardian.
