In yet another example of how the fast-emerging blockchain technology could solve real-world problems, suppliers and retailer giants like Walmart, Dole and Kroger, will be using this safe and secure ledger system to speedily record and track food from source to store.

The stores will use IBM's enterprise blockchain, which will allow the stakeholders to easily share shipping information in the event of food contamination, a process that normally takes up to two weeks currently, writes Engadget.

Blockchain technology is making rapid strides proving its worth in a wide range of fields from supply chain to equity management, notes Computer World UK.
