MIT researchers have handed food lovers a new delight in the form of an artificial intelligence system that can figure out the recipe of a dish just by having a look at its picture. Called Pic2Recipe, the system combs through a huge database of a million recipes and images, sourced from popular cooking websites.

MIT student and lead author, Nick Hynes, says the system not only helps people to prepare exotic dishes at home but also acquaints them of the nutritional quotient of an unfamiliar food, notes CNET.

Critics, however, remain skeptical that image recognition algorithms will ever be able to accurately spot the difference between strikingly similar looking food or drinks, for example in case of a glass of cola and a black coffee, writes New Scientist.
