The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, tweeted on Wednesday that he may soon make some announcement about his “neural lace” plans, a concept that visions human brains reinforced with digital layer of intelligence. Musk, who first discussed the idea at Recode’s Code Conference last year, said that such a symbiotic brain-machine relationship would help humans to keep pace with the developments in artificial intelligence.

Theoretically, the concept involves a wireless mesh that will act as an interface between the brain’s biological circuitry and an ultra-fine computing device implanted into the brain, notes Teslarati. The mesh will be capable of artificially enhancing certain functions of brain by regulating the chemicals released by the brain’s neurons.

Elaborating on what he aims to achieve with the ambitious project, Musk says that neural lace can rid the humans of their incredibly slow input/output levels compared to computers, writes Live Science.
