Sorin Grindeanu, a member of the Social Democratic Party and former communications minister, has been nominated as the new Prime Minister of Romania. Sorin’s appointment ended the political crisis that emerged after the country’s president rejected Sevil Shhaideh, who could have been the first female Muslim premier of Romania.

The president withheld the reasons for Shhaideh’s rejection but observers believe the decision was made due to the fact that her husband, 54, is a Syrian who immigrated to Romania five years back, writes Al Jazeera.

Within the next 10 days, Sorin must come up with the names of his cabinet members and a governing program, which must then be backed by the parliament’s confidence vote, writes The Stare Online.
