(MGMC & Solares Fondazione delle Arti)

Savoring the golden era in Italian filmmaking, with directors Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni and Pier Paolo Pasolini among its heroes, “The Years of La Dolce Vita” will open at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art in London on April 30.

The exhibition will explore one of the most fertile periods in contemporary Italian cinema and the simultaneous rise of the paparazzi and explosion of celebrity culture.

On display will be around 80 photos capturing the sweet life of Italian movie stars and Hollywood royalty (think Lauren Bacall, Liz Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, John Wayne and Charlton Heston) working in Rome during the 1960s.

Woven through the exhibition will be behind-the-scenes shots by Marcello Geppetti of the making of “La Dolce Vita,” Fellini’s movie which spawned the term paparazzo, along with photos of the epic productions filmed in the Italian capital during the period included “Ben-Hur” (1959) and “Cleopatra” (1963).

The exhibition will be running At Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art until June 29.
