IBM's business has been struggling as its traditional hardware offerings are facing the competition from mobile makers. Lenovo's $2.3 billion deal comes at a time of slumping revenue, and will allow IBM to focus on software goals. The China-based company is the largest PC maker in the world, and IBM's server unit will help it reinforce its offerings.
