The political tensions surrounding P.M. Recep Tayyip Erdogan rose Wednesday as his government dismissed more than 500 police officers, the latest establishment counterblow in a scandal over government corruption Tayyip Erodgan claims is part of a coup plot by supprters of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen. The prime minister also faced skepticism during his visit to Brussels this week over a proposed bill to reform the judiciary in a way that E.U. officials saw as dangerous to the separation of powers.
