HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe's longtime president says he will surrender power if he loses elections on Wednesday. He also dismissed allegations that voting will be rigged.
At a press conference on the eve of the elections, President Robert Mugabe denied that results of previous elections had been tampered with, as alleged by observers: "We have done no cheating, never, ever."
Mugabe said any unrest surrounding contested results in this former British colony in Africa will be stopped.
"If you lose, you must surrender to those who won. We will do so," he said.
If he left office, Mugabe said he won't be idle, describing himself as a story teller who might start writing about his life.
