Bacon Isabel Rawsthorne triptych sells for $17.3M

A Francis Bacon triptych of the artist’s favorite female model, “Three Studies of Isabel Rawsthorne,” sold at Sotheby's London for £11.3 million ($17.3 million). Its pre-sale estimate had been £10 million-15 million. it was bought by Alex Corcoran of London's Lefevre Gallery. The 1966 work last went under the hammer at Christie's in London in June 2004, where it realized £2.4 million. The evening auction of 69 contemporary art lots is estimated to have raised between £66.1 million and £94.6 million. Christie’s raised £70.1 million from its 64-lot sale of contemporary works the previous night.
