The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has approved companies using social media such as Twitter and Facebook to announce key information, so long as investors have been alerted about which sites will be used to disseminate it. The decision could prompt a sea change in how companies communicate with investors. It comes as regulators more broadly grapple with adapting decades-old regulations to new and evolving technologies.
