The Nairobi Securities Exchange's (NSE) benchmark NSE-20 Share Index rose by 28.95 % to close at 4,133.02 points at the end of 2012, making the bourse the second highest gainer of the year among the stock exchanges of Africa and Middle East, after the Egyptian Stock Exchange, and eighth globally. Growth in investor confidence has been a key reason for the gains. It is yet to be seen if this will continue ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections due March 4.
