S. Africa output tumbled in strike-hit September

Output in South Africa's mining and manufacturing industries fell in September, a month of widespread strikes. Mining output contracted 8% during the month; manufacturing activity shrank 2.3%, official data showed. The two sectors account for a fifth of the country's economic output, and were already being hit by weaker global demand for thier exports.
