UnitedHealth to take control of Brazil's Amil

U.S. health insurers are looking to expand internationally, particularly in fast growing emerging markets, as their industry faces greater domestic regulation. With its proposed $4.9 billion purchase of a 90% stake in Brazil's largest managed-care company, Amil Participacoes, UnitedHealth follows Cigna into the international health market where growth is potentially less constrained than in the U.S.
