The brisk peace process on the Korean Peninsula entered “a new, higher stage” on Monday as the two Koreas agreed to begin reconnecting their rail and road links that have been cut since the 1950-53 Korean War.

The North and South plan to host an inauguration ceremony in late November or early December to mark the beginning of work for restoration of the transport links, notes Reuters. Despite warming ties with Seoul, North Korea remains under a host of international sanctions, which could only be lift after it makes substantial efforts to denuclearize and disarm itself.

The development may not go down well with the U.S., which many believe, is falling behind in its push to rid N. Korea of its nuclear arsenal while the two Koreas continue to make rapid advancements towards bilateral peace and engagement, reports ABC News.
