An agonizing truth about beach cleanups is the problem of perpetuity. You remove plastic stockpiles and a few days later, the oceans froth back more. On this Coastal Cleanup Day on September 15, the environmental activist group “The Story of Stuff,” is proposing a nifty idea to tackle this situation.

The organization wants beach cleaners to carry out a “brand audit” in addition to their routine cleanup, whereby they will name the brands of the collected trash, a step that would let the world know who are the biggest marine polluters and hold them accountable, notes Tree Hugger.

The Coastal Cleanup Day, observed on the third Saturday of September, is the largest international volunteer effort for beach cleanups, writes Santa Barbara Independent.
