The repertoire of renewable energy, currently dominated by solar power, could see a massive shift in its composition in future, with seaweed being touted as the new clean and green source of biofuel.

As innovators across the world strive to perfect renewable energy sources like wind, solar, tidal, among others, the U.S. Department of Energy is investing nearly $1.5 million in two projects to develop seaweed farms and harvest biofuel from the yield, writes Futurism.

Diversifying the gamut of renewable energy landscape with novel resources, such as seaweed power, could be the key to building a fossil fuel free planet, notes NBC News.
