The lawmakers in the European Parliament dismissed British Prime Minister Theresa May’s E.U. citizens plan, saying that the proposal fails to grant equal rights to Europeans in the U.K. as Britons’ in the E.U. after Brexit.

European Parliament chief Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt described the offer as a “damp squib,” adding that it would leave Europeans as “second-class” citizens in post-Brexit U.K., writes Mirror.

The political groups, which constitute about two-third of the votes in the European Parliament, warned that May’s plan would encourage red tape, leaving millions of people vulnerable, writes the BBC.
